Data Scientist (Visualization)

Epistemix empowers leaders to make better decisions. Organizations use our data-science tools to manage risk, fight infectious disease, improve disaster response, adapt to climate change, compare strategies across scenarios, and better understand the people they seek to serve.

We are seeking team members to join our data science and professional services team to visualize simulation results. You will work on developing visualization standards for simulations and specific visualizations for products. You will help design, implement, and maintain visualization tools. This includes the processing of simulation results, data analysis and manipulation, and graphical design.

Visualization is one of the most critical elements in helping people make more informed decisions. Without being able to interpret simulation results in a meaningful way, our internal team and customers will struggle to find utility in our work. The results of your efforts will be included in our platform visualization tools, marketing material, executive summaries, keynote presentations, dashboards, and products. Candidates should be well-rounded, curious, motivated individuals with experience creating visuals for technical and non-technical audiences. The ideal candidate has a passion for communicating complex and important information to others.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with professional services, client success, research and development, and marketing teams to understand visualization needs.
  • Lead projects tailored to amplifying the impact of FRED simulation results.
  • Write Python or R packages to digest FRED simulation results into high quality and informative graphics.
  • Produce visual assets that can be used in products or by the sales, marketing, and client success teams.
  • Work with the engineering team to develop and maintain web-based visualization tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a quantitative field such as mathematics, computer science, physics, economics, engineering, or statistics. Equivalent industry experience will be considered in lieu of education.
  • Interest and opinions on good design.
  • Experience with programming for data analysis (Python or R preferred).
  • Ability to build a project, tool, or package from the ground up.
  • Demonstrated ability to create high-value visualizations using complex data.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to craft actionable insights from complex data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including being able to craft powerful user stories, and the ability to successfully communicate complex topics.

Start Date: January 1, 2022.
